The Signal

SpaceX's $60B Cursor purchase trades one illiquid mark for another.

BoxGroup wrote a $750K first check and now carries it near $1B, which is a spectacular multiple on paper, and paper is the operative word: the consideration is the acquirer's own unlisted equity, not cash. Two of this week's three record strategic prints settled the same way, so the new exit ceiling re-rates marks well before it produces distributions. If you're modeling LP cash off this quarter's comps, the comps moved and the cash did not.

In Play

  1. Strategic Acquirers Reset the Exit Ceiling

SpaceX, Nvidia, and Stripe each bought distribution rather than revenue, and two of the three are paying in unlisted paper — record prints that reset terminal-value assumptions well before they produce liquidity.

  2. AI Capex Becomes Six-Year Liability

Anthropic and Kioxia just contracted compute and memory capacity six years forward, partly financed by bank balance sheets. Any neocloud pitched to you on anchor-tenant backlog carries concentrated credit and construction risk.

  3. China AI Priced Above US Labs, Exits Impaired

The Information obtained a Dimension Capital letter marking leading Chinese labs at five to ten times US frontier revenue multiples on a fraction of the revenue. The binding problem is exit: Beijing unwound Meta's Manus purchase, and regulators oppose Earendil's Hong Kong listing.

  4. Agent Containment Gets a Category and an Incumbent

Cloudflare One now fingerprints MCP traffic at the network layer and enforces it at three separate points, and OWASP published an Agentic Skills Top 10 the same week. The category got legitimized and its most obvious wedge got absorbed by an incumbent already sitting in the traffic path. Censys separately measured internet-exposed AI tooling up more than 60% in nine months, with LiteLLM up 97% and carrying an actively exploited pre-authentication SQL injection that leaks every upstream provider key. Visibility is commoditizing; enforcement and policy are not.

  5. The Labor-Substitution Recant

Clara Shih, who launched Agentforce at Salesforce and then built Meta's Business AI, now says the augmentation story has "primarily not been true." Salesforce's disclosed cut from about 9,000 support staff to 5,000 remains the only chief-executive-attested substitution number in this cycle. The same week, Reuters reported that underperforming agents helped derail Zuckerberg's plan to cut up to 60% of Meta. Both are true at once: enough substitution to break seat-based pricing in artifact-prep functions, not enough reliability to justify app-layer multiples.

Deep Dives

  1. Three Record Prints, and None Paid in Cash You Can Bank

The exit ceiling for distribution assets has moved up; whether your marks can follow depends on consideration mix and on how fast each purchased layer is being rebuilt for free.

What changed: Strategic buyers reset the exit ceiling on distribution assets. Labs pushed compute risk six years forward onto balance sheets you do not underwrite, and China's premium multiple now sits behind three impaired exit routes. Why it matters: A…

  2. Six-Year Contracts Move AI Risk Onto Balance Sheets You Don't Underwrite

Two commitments in one session pushed demand risk six years forward and pulled bank capital into the AI trade; the counterparty concentration lands in your infrastructure diligence, not the lab's.

Read the ramp, not the average Forty-five billion dollars over six years averages roughly $7.5B a year of fixed compute cost for one lab, per Bloomberg's disclosure, which is the number everyone will quote and also the least informative one,…

  3. China AI Clears at a 5-10x Premium With All Three Exits Impaired

A leaked field letter gives the first hard mark on Chinese lab pricing; the harder number is how little revenue that adoption converts, and which Western layer collects it instead.

The pricing mark, and the revenue that isn't behind it Two numbers do the arguing in the Dimension Capital letter obtained by The Information, and they point in opposite directions. Leading Chinese labs trade at revenue multiples five to ten…
